R each is one woven with determination, courage and a sense of adventure. When its founder late Mr. Atul Panabokke, a tea planter by profession, embarked on this project in the early seventies, few would have believed that this venture in a fledgling industry would progress so far. His vision and commitment together with the able assistance of his wife and family laid the foundations for these remarkable achievements.
Commencing as a four roomed guesthouse where guests were welcomed and looked after by the owner, his gracious wife and sons, this enterprise has developed steadily. Firstly it was upgraded to a twenty-three roomed hotel and later to fifty rooms and finally renovated and repositioned as a one hundred and twelve roomed five star hotel till managed by the Panabokke family, the late Mr. Atul Panabokke's vision of a modern hotel which maintains the old world charm and hospitality seems to have become a reality. His sons, Jayantha, the Managing Director, and Mohan, have managed to combine traditional with modern, guided by their late mother Dolly, founder director and former chairperson of the company, developing a unique style of management. In the recent years the story of Mahaweli Reach has taken yet another twist. Present days, the Universal Group of Maldives, has a major stake hold with Mahaweli Reach. Being one of the largest hotel chains in Maldives, this alliance is considered mutually beneficial and continues to make Mahaweli Reach Hotel a front runner in the industry. Our reputation remains pristine with quality, excellence, charm and warmth from the heart.

What a super place to stay - clean. tidy, tranquil and the staff were fantastic. For a Sri- Lanka Hotel it can become a little expensive if you choose to eat off the a la carte menue and drink the wine. But compared to a UK Hotel it is still cheap. I bought a ring from the jewellery shop on the premises and I am confident that I got a good deal! I would highly recommend this Hotel and hope to stay there again.

Mahaweli Reach Observes Earth Hour
Mahaweli Reach Hotel observed Earth Hour on 23rd March 2013. joining millions of people from across the globe in support of efforts to create awareness and celebrate their commitment to reduce environmental impact. At precisely 8:30 PM on Saturday 23rd March 2013, all non essential lights in the public areas were symbolically switched off, and diners enjoyed a candle lit dinner. Guests were also encouraged to switch off all non essential lights in their rooms during this hour. It was a moment shared by all transcending barriers of race, religion, culture, society, generation and geography in a global celebration of their commitment to protect the one thing that unites us all – the planet.
We are conscious that Earth Hour is not about saving an hour’s electricity, it’s much bigger than that. It’s about realising that the actions we take, from the energy we use, to the food we buy and water we drink, has an effect on the world. We all depend on our amazing planet and need to look after it – not just for an hour a year, but every day.
As a responsible corporate citizen we strive to follow practices which promote sustainability in all our activities including in respect of consumption of energy and water, recycling and disposal of waste materials, introduction of more environmentally friendly equipment and in the procurement process. We recognise that preservation of the environment in which we operate is of paramount importance for our team, the organisation, our community and our planet.
