Scholarship Details
  • Amount: $500
    Payable to applicant chosen.
  • Who can apply?
    High school seniors and anyone currently enrolled in a secondary education institution.
  • Application Deadline: April 15, 2016
    All application materials must be mailed no later than the deadline date. Materials received later will be rejected, resulting in disqualification. There will be absolutely no exceptions, so be sure to give your application plenty of transit time.
  • Winner will be chosen by: May 15, 2016
    Non-winners will not be notified.
Scholarship Requirements (Applicant Must Meet All Criteria)
  • All applicants must currently hold or anticipate earning a high school diploma within the 2015-2016 school year, currently be attending an accredited four-year university or college, or currently be attending a two-year institution with the intent of transferring to a four-year university or college. So basically, if you’re a graduating high school senior, you’re currently attending a community college with the intent of transferring to a university, or you’re currently attending a university, feel free to apply.
  • Applicants should also be pursuing or planning to pursue a secondary education degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Writing, Design, or Computer Science (basically all the different things we do here at SLS Consulting, Inc. ). If you’re unsure of what you want to major in, still feel free to apply! The previously mentioned areas of study are what our staff majored in during school, so we thought it would be an encouraging place to start.
  • Have earned a high school diploma or GED
  • Hold a 3.0 or higher overall GPA
  • Be a US citizen and current US resident
  • Applicant must complete two (2) written portions on application form:
    • INTRODUCTION: 100-200 Words
      SLS Consulting wants to learn a little about you and why you’re applying for this scholarship. Feel free to include fun facts about yourself, or anything else that you feel would help your application stand out and encourage us to select you.
    • SHORT ESSAY: In 350-750 words. Please incorporate one or more of the following:

      • How does what you post on social media sites today impact your future?
      • Why is having an online presence important these days?
      • How can you use the internet to make your mark on the world?
      • What sets your "brand" apart from everyone else out there?

      As our first round of screening takes place, an unofficial transcript from your most recent school attended is required. If our team decides that you may be a potential winner after subsequent rounds of screening, you will be contacted and asked to mail or electronically send an official, unopened transcript to help us verify that the information you provided on the unofficial transcript was accurate, and that you meet all other requirements. Please do not initially send the official copies .

The goal is to highlight the distinctive contributions that college students are making on campus or in their communities. Many grants will be awarded by Doublemint Gum and the Williams sisters. 8th Annual 'My Turn' Essay Competition

Kaplan, Inc. and Newsweek announce the eighth annual "My Turn" Essay Competition. High school students get the opportunity to showcase their writing ability and compete for academic scholarships. The competition gives students a forum for expressing their point of view and, perhaps, a chance to meet the rising costs of college. Ten finalists will be selected, with the first place winner receiving $5,000, the second place winner receiving $2,000, and eight additional winners receiving $1,000. Ten honorable mentions will also be selected. In addition to the scholarship, a winning essay may be published in Newsweek magazine. The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship competition, is sponsored by the US Department of State. It is open for the winter/spring term of academic for travel between Jan. 1 and April 30, 2002. The scholarships go to students with financial need who are underrepresented in study abroad to apply. The Colgate University Fellowship in Creative Writing

Colgate University (English Department) invites applications for its Fellowship in Creative Writing. Writers of poetry, fiction, or fictional or prose fiction who have recently completed an MFA, MA, or PhD in creative writing, and who need a year for the completion of their first book, are encouraged to apply. The selected writer will spend the academic year (beginning in late August and concluding in early May) at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. The fellow will teach one creative writing
course each semester and will give a public reading from the work in progress. The fellowship carries a stipend of $27,000 plus travel expenses; health and life insurance are provided. The American Library Association Scholarships
(Spectrum Scholarship Initiative)

The "Spectrum Initiative" is to recruit applicants and award
scholarships to African-American, Latino/Hispanic, Asian/
Pacific Islander and Native American/Alaskan Native students
for graduate programs in library and information studies. The
American Library Association has committed resources for 50
annual scholarships of $5,000 a year for the Initiative's first five
years. Black Excel suggests that you review the lists of the
1998-2001 of Scholarship Recipients. Note that the winners go on to attend large state universities where there are graduate programs in library and information studies.The deadline for applying is March 1st, 2002! The 2001 Hurston/Wright Award
(For Fiction Writing)

The Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Award has been established by novelist Marita Golden to honor excellence in fiction writing by students of African descent enrolled full time as undergraduate or graduate students in any college or university in the United States. The first-place award of $1,000 and second- and third-place awards of $500 will be presented at a ceremony in July to the writers of the best previously unpublished short story or novel excerpt. Bannerman Fellowship Program
For Activists of Color

The Bannerman Fellowship Program is designed to honor outstanding activists of color by giving them an opportunity for reflection and renewal. Each year, ten Bannerman Fellows receive an award of $15,000 to take sabbaticals of three months or more. The Fellows may use their sabbaticals in whatever way they think will best re-energize them for the work ahead. Past fellows have used the time and resources to travel, study, visit with other activists, read, relax, acquire new skills, explore new interests, evaluate, and plan. To qualify, an applicant must have at least ten years experience as a community activist working for social change and be a resident of the US. Target All-Around Scholarships

Target's All-Around Scholarships for Students will provide funds to high school seniors and college students who are committed to community service and education. Target will award four $10,000 scholarships and more than twenty-one hundred $1,000 scholarships. Eligible students must be 24 or under and be enrolled in college (2- or 4-yr) no later than the fall, 2002-2003 year. An application and essay are necessary. Preference will be given to students who reside in a community where a Target store is located. Engineering Scholarships

These corporate-sponsored scholarships range in value from $1,000 to $10,000. To qualify, the applicant must enroll in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) at a university of the applicant's choice. Judging will be based on the criteria established by the sponsor and as outlined in the individual scholarship descriptions at the website. Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarships

This scholarship program was created to "applaud exemplary
accomplishments" and support "education and training beyond high school." Nine scholarships are being offered in each state, including an extra nine national awards�over 460 scholarships in total.
